Boxing Day Shopping

Like everyone else - or, at least it felt like - Joel and I decided to do a little boxing day shopping yesterday. For Christmas, we decided that our gift to each other would be a video camera (although Joel did end up gifting me with something else as well).

After some shopping around and waiting in a giant line, we purchased our camera. I am so excited to be able to document our lives together, from the wedding to where ever life takes us!

Afterwards, we decided to check out the mall and ended up purchasing some art for our new home! They were a great deal, and we now have three beautiful pieces that I can't wait to display.

Getting them home was a little more difficult than we anticipated. The longest one wouldn't fit in Joel's trunk. No problem, we thought. We'll just put down the back seats. We did that and were able to fit in two frames. The last - which was actually the smallest (in some ways) - is square and was too wide to fit past the back of the trunk. It wouldn't fit through the back seat doors either! Our solution was to leave the trunk a little bit open, and to secure it with bungee cords. The only problem was that we don't have bungee cords. We mulled this over for a bit. Did I mention that it was freezing out? Joel's quick thinking led to him removing a shoe lace from his gym bag and securing the trunk door that way. I waited in the car, trying to warm up. When everything was secured, we slowly began exiting the packed parking lot. Less than 30 seconds later, the trunk door popped up a little. We stopped and I got out to investigate.

Here is what I saw:

Surely enough, Joel had tied the the trunk shut with his shoe lace, but HE HADN'T REMOVED THE SHOE! I had a giant laugh right there in the parking lot and had to take a picture. Luckily, we did get the  paintings home... and then found bungee cords in Joel's trunk.
